With that said, Aquaponics can not take care of itself! It is true that this system requires very little care, it is still essential that you give Aquaponic fruits and vegetables those few minutes a day each and every day in order to achieve good results, and keep the gardens or farm producing for a long period of time.
The major process in aquaponics is water and aeration. If the water is properly aerated, then your fish will be happy and your plants will grow normally. On the other hand, if the water is not properly oxygenized, then there are very few chances that your garden will survive for more than a couple of days.
Here’s why. Disolved oxygen is necessary for the fish to breathe. (And fish are essential in this process.) Even though the fish live under water they still need to breathe and just like in case of other animals, they need oxygen to survive. When they lack oxygen they die, thus the balance from your aquaponic system is lost and in a matter of days your plants will start to get yellowish and eventually die out.
It’s important to monitor the quality of your water each and every day, and have a back-up plan in case the power gets off and the air pumps will no longer be able to function. While this may sound complicated, if you have ever owned fish or a fish tank, you know that it can be as simple as checking in (or having someone you trust check in) on the system daily. Beyond that, there is not weeding, fertilizing or backbreaking planting work involved!
An Aquaponics system will give you organic, great tasting fruits and vegetables all year long, if you so desire. Learn more here ⇒ AQUAPONICS
